Who Should Pay for College Tuition After Divorce?

Forbes author Jeffrey A. Landers published an article about who should pay for college tuition after divorce.  According to Jeffrey, unless paying for tuition is ordered by the courts, there is generally no legal obligation to pay.  In situations where divorce settlement agreements include a written college support agreement, then this will be a financial obligation.  Jeff suggests that there may be benefits of receiving a lump sum payment rather than recurring payments.  Speak to your attorney or financial planner to determine what type of payment is right for you.  Jeff also talks about different types of calculations such as SUNY Cap that can be used to limit parental obligation to a percentage of college tuition.
